Marian J. Nolting, 95, of Waukon, IA, died Friday, September 25, 2009, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 29th, at 11:00 AM at Zalmona Presbyterian Church in rural Waukon, with Pastor Tom Buresh officiating. Burial will be at Zalmona Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM Monday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Marian Jean Nolting was born July 21, 1914 on the Ludlow Township, Allamakee County, Iowa farm of her parents, William Henry and Martha (Klein) Nolte. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church and attended Ludlow #7 rural school. On May 2, 1934 she married Calvin Anton Nolting. Marian and Calvin farmed in Ludlow Township for many years. Marian was a hard worker. She not only shared in all the farming chores, but handled all the household tasks of caring for her family as well. She was a good cook and baker and raised a large garden, canning much of her produce. In later years she also worked off the farm as a homemaker aid through Allamakee County and in the laundry department at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. She stayed on the farm for over 65 years before finally moving to Waukon.
Sincer her marriage, Marian was an active and devoted member of Zalmona Presbyterian Church, taking part in ladies circle and PW. She and Calvin enjoyed traveling extensively and made trips to many parts of the United States as well as other countries. Their family was very important to them and they encouraged their children to continue their education and travel themselves, also.
Survivors include 3 children, Janice (Zane) Younger of Eagan, MN, Mary Kay (Robert) Spizzo of Breezy Point, MN, and Eugene (Linda) Nolting of Cameron Park, CA; a daughter-in-law, Linda Nolting of Waukon; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lorna Bradley of Quincy, IL; and 2 brothers, Duane Nolte of Quincy, IL and Leo Nolte on Inverness, FL. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Calvin, who died in 1993; a son Richard and an infant son Norman; a grandson, David Nolting; a brother, Lester Nolte; and 2 sisters, Bernice Klocke and Dorothy Adam.
