Margaret C. Straate, 82, of Waukon, IA, died Monday, August 16, 2010, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Memorial services will be held Friday, August 20th, at 11:00 AM at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon. She will be memorialized in Ebenezer Cemetery, rural Waukon. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM Thursday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Margaret Caroline Straate was born on October 30, 1927 in Waukon, IA, the daughter of Edwin H. and Ada E. (Wiemerslage) Straate. She attended Waukon area schools and graduated from the Waukon High School and the Waukon Junior College. For her entire career Margaret was secretary for the school board of the Waukon School District. Following retirement in 1989 she moved from the family farm where she had lived her entire life to Postville, IA. While in Postville she enjoyed following her niece and nephew in their school activities. Throughout her life Margaret spent her spare time walking in the woods searching for mushrooms, gardening, traveling overseas and collecting and wearing necklaces.
Survivors include her brother, Stan (Mary) Straate of Postville, IA; a nephew, D.E. (Danielle) Straate of Los Alamos NM; and a niece, Anne (Chris) Wuebker of Waukon. She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Leslie Straate; and a sister, Linda Straate.
