Margaret Ann Smith

Margaret A. Smith, 95, of Waterloo, IA, formerly of Waterville, IA, died Friday, February 3rd at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center of natural causes. Memorial Services will be held at a later date at Martin Funeral Home, Waukon, IA. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.


Margaret Ann Smith was born November 13, 1916, in Davenport, Iowa, daughter of William and Inez (Martelle) Frank. Margaret married Clarence Vorseth of Waterville. He died in June of 1972. She married Michael Smith who passed away in July of 1991. Margaret enjoyed her family, farming, interior decorating and the Iowa Hawkeyes. She loved basketball and her team was the first girls basketball team in Allamakee County that went to the state tournament in Des Moines in 1934.

Survivors include her children, Duane (Sue) Vorseth of Gold Canyon, AZ and Betty (Roger) Butz of Waterloo; 7 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and 2 sisters, Helen Bandel of California and Theresa Askelson of Spring Grove, MN. She is preceded in death by her parents; a son, William Vorseth; 4 brothers, William, Jim, Paul, and Tony Frank; and 3 sisters, Mary Wilson, Priscilla Bagnek, and Anita Frank.
