Margaret Ann Pladsen

Margaret A. Pladsen, 90, of Waukon, IA, died Thursday, October 12, 2006 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 14th at 10:30 am at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial will be held in Old East Paint Creek Cemetery in rural Waterville, IA. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Friday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon where there will be a 4:00 pm scripture service.

Margaret Ann Waters Pladsen was born on June 13, 1916 on her parent's farm in rural New Albin, IA, the daughter of John and Wilamina "Minnie" (Welper) Waters. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dorchester, IA. She attended rural Allamakee Country Schools and Waukon High School. On May 31, 1939 she married Joseph Theodore Pladsen in Marion, IA. Margaret and Joe farmed in the New Albin area before moving to a farm in Jefferson Township rural Waukon in 1942. Margaret has been a resident at Northgate Care Center since August 2003. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Margaret enjoyed reading, playing cards, word games, traveling throughout the Midwest and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include a daughter, Joana Pladsen of Waukon; a daughter-in-law, Mary Pladsen of Waukon; 2 grandsons, James Pladsen of Waukon and John (Deb) Pladsen of Eden Prairie, MN and their daughter, Katie; 2 sisters-in-law, Anna Mae Waters of Caledonia, MN and Mavis Cook of Waukon, and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph who died in 1974; her son, John; a brother, James Waters and a sister, Loretta Cassidy.
