Maggie F. DeWalle, 73, of Waukon, IA, died Friday, July 31, 2020, at her home. Private family memorial services will be held at Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon with Pastor Steve Campbell officiating burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. In consideration of concerns regarding Covid-19, social distancing and wearing of mask is encouraged. Margaret "Maggie" Faye DeWalle was born March 17, 1947, in Salix, IA, the daughter of Gerald and Elizabeth (Barton) Johannsen. She was baptized at Salix Community Church, attended Salix Elementary School, graduated from Westwood High School in 1965, and attended Mercy Hospital School of Radiology. After college, she worked as an x-ray technician at Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City, IA, for a short time before moving to Waukon. On July 8, 1970, she married Duane "Dewey" DeWalle in Decorah, IA. Maggie was a librarian at Robey Memorial Library, worked at Northern Engraving, Veterans Memorial Hospital as an x-ray tech, and then did daycare for 38 years out of her home.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Waukon, where she was active in ladies circles, choir, and other church activities. Maggie also taught Sunday school and served as Sunday school superintendent, as a trustee, and on the Adboard. She loved taking care of all the children who she had babysat for over the years.
Survivors include her husband Dewey of Waukon; her daughters: Rachael (Troy) Kastler of Woolstock, IA, Missy (Darin) Carolus of Waverly, IA, and Amber Hageman of Waukon; nine grandchildren: Destiny Collins, Brooke and Gunnar Grotegut, Nathan and Jordan Kastler, Brady, Dallas, and Autumn Hageman, and Andrew Carolus; two great-grandchildren: Zayne and Maison Howe; and her beloved dog George. She is preceded in death by her parents; a daughter Justina; two sisters: Marie Huot and Betty Jane Kutzner; and a brother Dennis Johannsen.
Honorary casketbearers are Maggie's grandchildren.
