Lynn Morrow

Lynn W. Morrow, 98, of Waukon, IA, died Friday, January 23, 2015, at his home in Waukon. Memorial services will be held Monday, January 26th, at 11:00 AM at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Pastor Kim Gates officiating. Inurnment will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM Sunday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

Lynn Wallace Morrow was born April 9, 1916, in Gladbrook, IA, the son of Harry E. and Myrtie (Person) Morrow. His father was a lifelong Methodist minister serving churches throughout Northeast Iowa so Lynn lived in a variety of places. In 1934, Lynn graduated from Buck Creek High School, then received his B.A. degree from Cornell College in 1938, and in 1941, he received his J.D. degree from the University of Iowa College of Law. That same year Lynn was admitted to the Iowa Bar.

From 1941-46, he served in the U.S. Army as a captain in the 2nd Armored Division. He was wounded in action twice, captured by the Germans once, and served in six campaigns in Africa, Sicily, and Europe; Lynn was the recipient of the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart with oak leaf. On October 6, 1942, he married Margaret Dilley in Mt. Vernon, IA. Lynn was employed by the U.S. Veterans Administration in Des Moines as an adjudicator for three years following his discharge from the service. In 1949, he moved his family to Waukon, IA, and became associated with Herman Haehlen in the practice of law. During the years that followed, Lynn practiced law by himself as well as being associated with John W. Shafer and W. Richard White.

Lynn was very involved in his community and held several offices and served on many boards. From 1954-58, he was the Allamakee County Attorney, was the Waukon City Attorney from 1952-81, and for many years was the New Albin and Waterville City Attorney. In 1951, Lynn served as Attorney for the Allamakee Community School Board until the completion of building East Elementary School. He also served with: Allamakee County Society for Crippled Children; Allamakee County and Iowa Bar Associations; the Allamakee County Fair Board from 1952-87; the Waukon Library Board and Waukon Industry Board, both for 20 years; Northeast Iowa Mental Health Center Board; Allamakee County Mental Health Association; Board of Directors Area 1 Council on Aging; and the Advisory Board for the Waukon Good Samaritan Society. Lynn was a lifelong member, Service Officer, and past Post Commander of the Ralph D. Waters Post of the American Legion, and also a lifelong member and Service Officer of the Lawrence D. Anderson Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars; he was past Master of the Waukon Lodge 154 AF & AM of Masons as well.

In his free time, Lynn enjoyed spending time at his cabin on the Mississippi River, riding his motorcycle, and woodworking. He was also an avid reader and liked to travel whenever he got the chance.

Lynn is survived by his daughter Susan (Dan) Petrosky of Edina, MN; his son John of Waukon; two grandchildren: Kirstin (Jason) Franzen and Mark (Kimberly) Petrosky; and four great-grandchildren: Lynne and Laura Franzen and Anders and Elin Petrosky. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Margaret; and his brother Raymond.

Honorary casketbearers are Mark Petrosky, Jason Franzen, Keith Mason, Robert Lacewell, John Leschensky, John Prohaski, Richard White, and Wayne Burke.
