Lyle N. Westby, 78, of Waukon, IA, died Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Memorial services will be held Monday, April 11th, at 11:00 AM at Glenwood Lutheran Church in rural Decorah, IA, with Pastor Stacey Nalean-Carlson officiating. Friends may call from 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM Sunday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Lyle Nash Westby was born October 18, 1937, in Waukon, IA, the son of Carl and Rachel (Nash) Westby. He was baptized and confirmed at Glenwood Lutheran Church in rural Decorah, IA, and graduated from Decorah High School in 1955. On June 14, 1959, he married Jackie Chambers in Waterloo, IA. Lyle worked for Carlson Construction in Decorah and at John Deere Tractor Works in Waterloo, IA. He and Jackie started farming in 1964 in Glenwood Township, rural Decorah before moving to a farm in Jefferson Township, rural Waukon in 1970.
Lyle was a member of Glenwood Lutheran Church where he served on the council, the Waukon Golf and Country Club, and was a member of the Masons. He loved spending time with his family and making life long memories. Lyle enjoyed golfing, playing cards, traveling, playing shuffle board, watching the Green Bay Packers, and was a Shrine clown in many parades. Lyle also had his pilot's license and owned a small plane.
Survivors include his wife Jackie of Waukon; his children: Tammy (Mark) Knudtson of Waukon, Sherry Westby of Spring Grove, MN, David (Jackie Lee) Westby of La Crosse, WI, and Jenny (Kevin) Dixon and Lynne Pearson, both of Waukon; eight grandchildren: Nick (Gabby) Westby, Kayla (Donald) Brown, Rachel and Taylor Knudtson, Blake and Abby Dixon, and Grace and Nash Pearson; one brother Gordon (Peggy) Westby of Cannon Lake, CA; three sisters: Audrey Barth and Eunice (Robert) Denk, both of Decorah, and Barb (Bill) Radke of Wabasha, MN; a sister-in-law Arlene Westby of Decorah; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Kenneth (Ruth) Westby, Arden (Geri) Westby, and Roger Westby; and one sister Ethel (Wesley) Brandt; and a brother-in-law Dale Barth.
Honorary casketbearers are Lyle's grandchildren.
