Luain Spores, 90, of Decorah, IA, formerly of Dorchester, IA, died Tuesday, October 26th at Aase Haugen Home in Decorah. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 29th, at 11:00 AM at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, IA, with Rev. Richard Iles officiating. Burial will be at Dorchester Methodist Cemetery, Dorchester. Friends may call from 4:00 - 7:00 PM Thursday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Luain Spores was born July 19, 1920 in Dorchester, IA, the daughter of Ephriam and Emma (Shefelbine) Burroughs. She attended Elementary and Jr. High School in Dorchester. On October 17, 1938 she married James W. Spores Jr. in Decorah. They lived in Dorchester where they raised there five children. Luain was a member of St. John's Methodist Church in Dorchester. She enjoyed sewing, embroidery, making quilts for family members and for church fundraisers, baking, canning and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include her children, Charlotte Lunde of Waterloo, IA, Gaylord Spores of Decorah, Sheldon (Kathy) Spores of Forest City, IA, Shelby (Clifford) Bobinski of Rock Island, IL and Darrell Spores of Waterloo, IA; 7 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Jr. who died in 1984; a son-in-law William Lunde; 5 sisters, Elmora Daniels, Merle O'Hare, Lois Spores, Vesta Reeder and Myrtle Smith.
Casketbearers are Joe Thompson, Curtis Spores, Mike Lunde, William Hall, Gary Knickerbocker and Dave Carolan.
