Lorraine G. Shogren, 87, of Waukon, IA, died Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 18th, at 1:00 PM at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Pastor Eddie Cabrera officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Monday at Martin Funeral Home.
Lorraine Grace Shogren was born on March 12, 1926, in rural Lansing, IA, the daughter of Joseph and Eva (Aldrich) Johnson. She attended Drake Center #4 rural country school. On August 29, 1950, she married Kenneth LeRoy Shogren at Village Creek Seventh-day Adventist Church in rural Lansing. They farmed together in rural Waukon for many years. Lorraine enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens. She also raised strawberries, raspberries and grapes. She spent a lot of her time canning good things for everyone to enjoy. Lorraine was a caregiver to her parents, her sister Alice, and her husband. In 1991, they moved to town where she also had a big garden and lots of flowers. She continued to go out to the farm and help out wherever she could. Lorraine was known for her homemade angel food cakes, a special ice cream dessert and homemade buns. She had a very witty sense of humor and always liked to have fun. She was gifted with the talent of playing the piano by ear and many have been blessed by her music.
Survivors include her children: Susie (Eddie) Cabrera of Davenport, IA, Lorie (Jason) Hackman of Waukon, and Dan (Lori) Shogren of Waukon; 5 grandchildren: Michael and Andrew Cabrera, Jenna and Steven Shogren, and Haylee Grace Hackman; and a sister-in-law Margaret Johnson of Scottsdale, AZ. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Kenneth who died in 2012; three sisters: Alice and Aleta Johnson, and Evalena Sommer, and a brother Aldrich Johnson.
Honorary casketbearers are her grandchildren. Casketbearers are Jerry and Cletus Sommer, Darwin Johnson, Gene Shogren, Paul Ebner, and Larry Schellhammer.
