Lorraine Kathryn Adam

Lorraine K. Adam, 98, of Waukon, IA, died Thursday, July 16, 2020, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Due to the COVID- 19 pandemic, PRIVATE FAMILY FUNERAL SERVICES will be at Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon with burial at St. Mary's Lycurgus Cemetery, rural Waukon. Lorraine Kathryn Adam was born July 2, 1922, in rural Waukon, IA, the daughter of James L. and Mary (Sweeney) Welch. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's Lycurgus Catholic Church in rural Waukon. Lorraine attended Lycurgus Country School and graduated from Waukon High School in normal training. On December 31, 1941, she married Leonard John Adam at St. Mary's Lycurgus Catholic Church. Lorraine taught country school in rural Monona and Harpers Ferry for a few years. She and Leonard farmed near Harpers Ferry and then moved to a farm in Ludlow Township, rural Waukon. After retiring from the farm, they moved into Waukon where Lorraine worked at the Sears Catalog Store and later was the secretary for RSVP.

She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and was an "adopted grandparent" for 20 years at West Elementary School in Waukon. Lorraine enjoyed playing cards, ballroom and square dancing, and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her children: Maureen Mahoney of Waukon; Marilyn Adam and her husband Ralph Tauke of Stoddard, WI, John (Lois) Adam, Jim (Linda) Adam, and Bill (Cheryl) Adam, all of Waukon; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law Leona Welsh of La Crosse, WI; and many special nieces, nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Leonard, who died in 2001; four brothers: Clem, James and his wife Joan, Ambrose and his wife Phyllis, and Ralph and his wife JoAnn.
