Lorna Fruechte

Lorna M. Fruechte, 88, of Waukon, IA, died Sunday, October 4, 2015, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 20th, at 11:00 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn G. Groe officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call one hour before services at the church. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is handling the arrangements.

Lorna Marie Fruechte was born October 24, 1926, in Waukon, IA, the daughter of Charles August and Marie Althea (Nelson) Herman. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon. Lorna graduated from Waukon High School and completed junior college. After graduation, she work at Schultz Brothers Variety Store in Waukon until she married Ernest Donald Fruechte. The couple married on August 8, 1959, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. They made their home in Landmark (between Waukon and Lansing) before moving into Waukon in 1963. During the 1970s and 80s, Lorna worked part-time as a secretary for the Interstate Producers Livestock Association.

She was a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, where she was involved with the ladies' circle, taught Sunday school, and helped make quilts. Lorna loved gardening, both flowers and vegetables, and would get into friendly arguments with the neighbors about the correct way to garden. She also enjoyed going to church, watching television, and taking family vacations across the country and Canada.

Lorna is survived by her son Donald Fruechte of Waukon; her brother George Herman of Waukon; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ernie; son David; her brother Karl Herman; and brother-in-law Richard Fruechte.
