Lorine C. Halvorson, 94, of Waukon, IA, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 3rd, at 11:00 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn G. Groe and Fr. Rick Halvorson officiating. Burial will be at Old West Paint Creek Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Thursday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Lorine Clara Halvorson was born April 21, 1919, in Allamakee County, IA, the daughter of Charlie and Lydia (Savert) Johnson. She attended Lycurgus rural school. On December 4, 1937, she married Herbert H. Halvorson, Sr. in Decorah, IA. Lorine worked as a nurse's aide at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon for many years. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she was active in the women's group.
Lorine enjoyed spending time with her family, doing puzzles, fishing, camping, sewing, crocheting, quilting, cooking, baking, and making lefsa at Christmas time. She and Herbert enjoyed dancing, especially waltzing.
Survivors include her children: Richard (Bernie) Halvorson of East Dubuque, IL, Herbert Halvorson, Jr. of Waukon, Darlene Keehn of Dubuque, IA, Lois (Charles) Rolfs and Wanda Barker, both of Waukon; 24 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister Evelyn Gilson of Waukon. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Herbert, who died in 1990; infant daughter Donna Rae Halvorson; a grandson Russ Halvorson; a daughter-in-law Mary Lou Halvorson; 2 sons-in-law: Edwin (Sonny) Keehn and Gary Barker; and 4 sisters: Catherine Hanson, Lillian Gilbertson, Mildred Storla and Gladys Larson.
Honorary casketbearers are Cindy Bodensteiner, Roxanne Brown, Sandra Casetta, Connie Gordon, Cherie Halvorson, Christine Halvorson, Shelley Healy, Renae LeGrand, Kathie Robinson, Kimberly Rolfs, Rhonda Slickman, and Dawn Smith. Casketbearers are Randy Halvorson, Roger Halvorson, Ryan Halvorson, Rob Halvorson, Charlie Rolfs, Steve Rolfs, Clark Halvorson, Bill Keehn, Ron Keehn, Todd Dietrich, and Chris Dietrich.
