Loren Bulman

Loren A. Bulman, 89, of Spring Grove, MN, formerly of Dorchester, IA, died peacefully Sunday, June 25, 2017, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, WI. A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, June 27th, at 2:00 PM at Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church in rural New Albin, IA, with Pastor Paul Burgess officiating. Interment will be at the church cemetery. Friends may greet the family one hour before services at the church. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Loren Alton Bulman was born April 10, 1928, in Preston, MN, the son of Alton John and Helga Mae (Sadler) Bulman. In 1947, he graduated from Waukon High School in Waukon, IA. On July 18, 1952, Loren married Margaret Bratrud at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lansing, IA. For 65 years Loren farmed in English Bench area. Initially working on his father's farm, Loren then bought his own farm on land that was previously settled by his great-grandparents. Four and a half years ago, Loren and Margaret retired and moved to Spring Grove, MN.

He was a lifetime member of Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church, serving as elder and trustee. Loren was also sexton at the church cemetery and served on the board as well. He served many years as a Union City Township trustee, on the New Albin rural fire board, including as president, and as Farm Bureau chairman for Union City Township.

He enjoyed hunting pheasants and raccoons, and made trips to northern Wisconsin and Michigan to hunt bear; Loren also liked to fish on the Upper Iowa River and go salmon fishing in Wisconsin. He enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his friends and family. He and Margaret also made a special trip to Norway.

Loren is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years Margaret of Spring Grove; his daughters: Jan (Ken) Ruben of Spring Grove, Sue Kruse of Houston, MN, and Kim Bulman of Spring Grove; grandchildren: Kristin (Jonah) Ross, Jacob (Christine) Kruse, Lindsey (Derek Nelson) Kruse, Lauren (Allen Bauer) Danielson, and Alison Jahnke; step-granddaughter Aubrey McAlear; great-grandchildren: Isabel Ross, Addison, Ethan, and Ava Kruse, and Ryder Wiese; step-great-granddaughters Addison and Lydia McAlear; his sister Lois Wiedenmann of Waukon; a brother Robert (Marilyn) Bulman of Waukon; two sisters-in-law Eloise Bulman of Waukon and Grace Bulman of Eitzen, MN; and brother-in-law Orville (Dorothy) Bratrud of Waukon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; twin sons Randall and Ricardo; two brothers Dean and Delbert Bulman; brother-in-law Neal Wiedenmann; and sister-in-law Shirley Bulman.

Casketbearers and ushers are Loren's nephews.
