Lois M. Brandsmeier, 95, of Waukon, IA, died Tuesday, August 3, 2010, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 6th, at 11:00 AM at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon, with Pastor Samantha Houser officiating. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is assisting the family with arrangements.
Lois Marie Brandsmeier was born February 17, 1915 in rural Waukon, IA, the daughter of Henry and Mathilda (Christ) Brandsmeier. She attended Elk School in rural Waukon and graduated from Waukon High School in the normal training program in 1933. Lois farmed for a few years before moving into Waukon. She then taught school for seven years in rural Waukon. When schools consolidated she went to work as a physical therapist and a nurse's aid at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. She also farmed raising some crops and cattle. Lois was a caregiver for the Jones family. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ. Lois enjoyed playing cards, traveling, working in her vegetable and flower gardens, visiting with family and friends and loved animals.
Survivors include a niece, Julie (Jim) Halverson of Monona, IA; a nephew, Richard (Faith) Miene of Toddville, IA and her great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Carl Brandsmeier; a sister, Mildred Miene and a nephew, Arvey Miene.
