Lois Ann Aldrich was born on March 3, 1935 on the rural Waterville, IA, farm of her parents, Charles John and Evelyn Harriet (Johnson) Anderson. She spent her early years in the Elon area where she attended rural school and won awards for her sewing in 4-H. She went to school in Waukon after moving there with her parents, and worked as a babysitter for area families as well as ran the popcorn machine at the local theater, before graduating from Waukon High School in 1954. On August 28, 1955 she married Donald Richard Aldrich at the Center Baptist Church. Donald left for military service and Lois worked as a switchboard operator at the telephone company in Waukon. When Don returned, they started farming in Lansing Township and when the kids came along, Lois stayed home to be a loving mother and homemaker as well as to help on the farm. They remained on the farm until moving to Waukon in 2003.

Lois was constantly busy helping others. She was an accomplished seamstress and did crochet and other handiwork, often giving what she made to family and friends as gifts. She kept a big garden on the farm where she raised flowers and produce for canning. An excellent cook, she loved to treat her family to their favorite dishes as well as entertain friends, always making sure everyone had enough to eat. Throughout her life she remained an active member of Center Baptist Church, holding numerous offices and serving in the Women's Missionary Society. Lois and Don enjoyed a number of world-wide travels, including special missionary trips to Venezuela and Ecuador. In recent years she has enjoyed regular get-togethers with her former co-workers at the telephone company as well as her school classmates.

Survivors include her husband Donald, of Waukon; 3 children, Elizabeth (Richard) Seibert of Waukon and Signe (Daniel) Buege and Nathan Aldrich, both of Lansing; 9 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Janet Bray of La Crosse, WI, Ruth (John) Hartley of Postville, and Mary (Frank) Regan of Waukon; a brother, Warren "Tom" (Cheryl) Anderson of Des Moines; and a sister-in-law, Lois Anderson of Cedar Rapids. She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, C. John Anderson; a brother-in-law, Myron Bray; and a sister-in-law, Lana Anderson.
