Lloyd M. Snitker, 82, of Frankville, IA, died Monday, February 25, 2013, at Good Samaritan Center in Postville, IA. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 2nd, at 11:00 AM at Salem United Church of Christ in rural Waukon, IA, with Pastor Keith Selberg officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will be at Salem Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 - 7:00 PM Friday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Lloyd Milton Snitker was born November 13, 1930, in Ludlow Township, rural Waukon, IA, the son of Leonard LeRoy and Wilhelmina "Minnie" (Flage) Snitker. He attended Ludlow #9 elementary school, and received his GED at the age of 44. On January 4, 1952, he married Joyce Ann Kolsrud at Salem United Church of Christ in rural Waukon. Lloyd served in the U.S. Army from 1952 until 1953 during the Korean War. After returning from the service, he and Joyce farmed in Ludlow Township for a few years. They moved to Frankville, IA; Lloyd went to work for Hygrade in Postville, IA, where he worked for 13 years, before working for his brother Donald and Paul William doing carpentry work.
Lloyd was a member of Salem United Church of Christ and was a past member of the Postville VFW. He enjoyed working in his garden, mowing lawn, playing cards, trapping, picking up walnuts and cracking them, and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his children Scott (Barbara) Snitker of Utah, Steve (Mary Beth) Snitker of Postville, Sharon (Jeff) Feickert of Frankville, Sheryl (Joe) Huinker of Ossian, IA, Brian (Lisa) Snitker and Brad Snitker, both of Frankville; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers: DuWayne (Laurayne) Snitker of Waukon and Earl (Mary Lou) Snitker of California; a sister: LaVonne Brandt of Frankville; 5 sisters-in-law: Loretta Snitker, Phyllis Snitker and Janet Snitker all of Waukon, Patty Snitker of New Port Richie, FL, and Sue Kolsrud of Fairbank, IA. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Joyce who died in 2011; 5 brothers: Donald, Leonard Junior, David, Dennis, and LeRoy in infancy; and a sister Jane Snitker.
Honorary casketbearers are his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Casketbearers are Travis and Trevor Feickert, Corey Huinker, Darrick, Drew, Jeremy, Nicholas and Ethan Snitker.
