Lloyd Henry Schulte was born August 30, 1933, in Spring Grove, MN, the son of John and Ella (Connor) Schulte. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dorchester, IA, and attended Washington country school. From 1953-57, Lloyd served in the Air Force as a mechanic, stationed in Puerto Rico. During this time, Lloyd married Shirley Marie Duffy at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, IA, on June 25, 1955; the couple continued to live in Puerto Rico until he was honorably discharged. They then returned home to Dorchester to farm, raising beef cattle and hogs. Lloyd also worked road construction and drove school bus; there are tales of him picking up calves in Waukon to bring back to farm on the bus. In 1987, he and Shirley moved into Waukon. In 1996, Shirley passed away. On October 30, 1998, Lloyd married Ruth Anne Howes Clauson at St. Patrick Catholic Church.
He was a member of St. Pat's and for several years, was the Allamakee County Committee Chairman of the FSA board. Lloyd loved visiting with everybody and having a good time, especially on St. Patrick's Day and also going to the boat. Once for Ruth Anne's birthday, he dressed up as Elvis and put on a show. Country music was his favorite and he loved listening to Charlie Pride. He liked to dance, play cards with his grandkids, watch the hummingbirds, and take drives around the countryside.
