Lillian Berniece Gray

Lillian B. Gray, 91, of Waukon, IA, died Saturday, April 22, 2006 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 27th at 11:00 am at St. John's Lutheran Church with Rev. Lynn G. Groe officiating. Burial will be held in Oakland Cemetery, both in Waukon. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

Lillian Berniece Benedict Gray was born on July 28, 1914 in Blair, WI, the daughter of Lewis and Bertha (Bryndulson) Benedict. She attended rural elementary schools in the Blair area. On December 26, 1934 she married Stanley E. Gray, also in Blair. After marriage, they lived in Tomah, WI, for a short time before moving to Waukon in 1936. Lillian worked as an innkeeper and manager of motels in Waukon, Monona and Stoddard, WI for many years.

Lillian was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and its ladies circles. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also liked to sew and loved to listen to music, as well as play the piano, harmonica, accordion and flute.

Survivors include her children, Patricia (Keith) Selberg of Waukon, John (Anita) Gray of Glendale Heights, IL, Sandra (Roger) Pladsen of Waterville, IA and Butch (Kathy) Gray of Fairfield, CA; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Stanley, who died in 1996; a son, Robert; 7 brothers, Frank, Burnett, Timothy, Percy, Rueben, Stanley and an infant brother; and a sister, Beatrice Selfors.

Casketbearers were her grandchildren, Mark, Todd, Steve and Matt Pladsen, Rob, Chris, Andy and Brian Gray, Scott and Shane Selberg and Susan Matthews.
