Lester I. Marti, 84, of Luana, IA died Saturday, April 21, 2007 at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare in La Crosse, WI, following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 25th at 11:00 am at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waukon, IA, with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery rural Waukon. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

Lester Irving Marti was born on February 3, 1923 in rural Waukon, the son of Philip and Inga (Sorum) Marti. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon and attended Makee and Jefferson #7 country schools. Lester lived and worked very hard on farms with his parents and brothers in Jefferson Township all of his life. He was a member of Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church. Lester enjoyed spending time outdoors especially hunting, fishing and trapping. He also enjoyed taking care of the family garden where they raise lots of vegetables for canning. Lester enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and reading the bible.

Survivors include 4 brothers, Gordon of Luana, IA, Kenneth (Penny) and Wilbur both of Waukon; and Grant of Dubuque, IA; a sister-in-law, Sylvia Marti of Marion and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; 5 brothers, Herman, Alton, Victor, Marvin and an infant brother; and a sister, Alice Marti.

Honorary casketbearers were Lester Fish, Dean Johnson, George Decker, Robert Kolsrud, Roger Benzing and Raymond Riek. Casketbearers were Ryan Benzing, Dayton Fish, Dean Bechtel, Dave Leas, Richard Hansmeier and Robert Marti.
