Leon H. Hosch, 92, of New Albin, IA, died Saturday, October 8, 2011, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, IA. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 10th, at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Albin with Fr. John Moser officiating. Burial with Military Rites will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery, New Albin. Friends may call from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM Sunday at the New Albin Townhouse in New Albin where there will be a Scripture Service at 5:30 PM
Leon Harold Hosch was born on August 8, 1919 in Caledonia, MN, the son of Peter and Inez (Woods) Hosch. Leon graduated from New Albin High School in 1937 after which he spent eighteen months in the CCC. In Davenport he furthered his education in foundry layout management, welding and foremanship. On January 28, 1943 he married Vivian Wylie in Davenport. Leon served in the Navy during WWII. Following his discharge in 1946 Leon worked with the Lansing Company Foundry for ten years. In 1956 he started the Lee Aluminum Foundry and Manufacturing and Hosch Marine Sales. After 25 years he sold the business to his oldest son James. Leon retired in 1982.
Leon was a 24 year member of the New Albin City Council, past Commander of the V.F.W., a lifetime member of the American Legion, Post #595 in La Crescent, MN, member of Elks Lodge #443 in Decorah and the Loyal Order of Moose Club Lodge #1920 in La Crosse.
Survivors include his children, James (Sandy) Hosch of New Albin, IA, Nancy (Philip) Kennedy of Polk City, IA, and Gerald Hosch of La Crosse, WI; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 3 siblings, Dorothy Fitzgerald and Donald Hosch, both of Pensacola, FL, and Belva Becker of New Albin. He is preceded in death by his wife Vivian, parents and a brother Orval.
Casketbearers will be his grandchildren.
