Leo M. Halverson, 79, of Lansing, IA, died Sunday, February 3, 2013, at Thornton Manor in Lansing. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 8th, at 11:00 AM at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, IA, with Pastor Kevin Smith officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 9:30 AM until time of service Friday at the funeral home.
Leo Martin Halverson was born August 18, 1933, in Allamakee County, IA, to Martin Louis and Mamie Lena (Warnholtz) Halverson. Leo attended rural school between Clermont and Elgin, IA, and completed the 7th grade; later, he worked for many farmers around the area. Leo worked for his brother Dorf and his niece Janice and Curtis Brandsmeier on their farm. In addition, he worked with another niece Jamie Bjornsen at her apple orchard near Lansing, IA.
He enjoyed playing cards with family members and friends. Leo was very proud of his John Deere tractor collection, and also enjoyed going to auctions. He always had a smile and let you know he loved you.
Leo is survived by his brother Kenneth of Woodman, WI; and two sisters: Marian (Duane) Meier of Lansing, and Marilyn (William) Macke of Solgohachia, AR.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers: Dorf, Roger, Harvey, Lynn, Eugene, and Frederick; and two sisters: Delilia Palmer and Kathleen Olson.
