Laverne Sorum

LaVerne Sorum, 90, of Waukon, IA, died Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 18th, at 11:00 AM at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Pastor Ronald Pederson officiating. Burial will be at East Paint Creek Synod Cemetery, rural Waterville, IA. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Monday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

Moris LaVerne Sorum was born April 22, 1926, in Waukon, IA, the son of Moris A. and Lulla G. (Gilbertson) Sorum. He was baptized on May 23, 1926, and later confirmed on November 16, 1941. LaVerne attended Bakkum School Center #4 through the 8th grade. On September 11, 1964, he married Linda Lou Beardmore at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. His whole life, LaVerne farmed on his home farm by the twin churches east of Waukon. He raised livestock, dairy cows, corn, and hay, and loved raising his farm cats. LaVerne did some fox hunting, enjoyed going to church, and liked visiting with neighbors, family, and friends. He was a member of East Paint Creek Synod Lutheran Church in rural Waterville, where he participated in the Men's Club, and was currently a member of King of Grace Lutheran Church in Waukon.

LaVerne is survived by his wife Linda of Waukon; his brother Burnell (Anita) Sorum of Waukon; sister-in-law LaVonne K. Beardmore of New York City; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Honorary casketbearers are Jim Adams, Dr. Mark Brodahl, Frank Goltz, Kermit Klees, Kevin Leiran, and Dr. Craig Phipps. Casketbearers are Aaron, David, and Eric Sorum, Tom Leiran, Ron Winters, and Darrell Troendle.
