Larry J. Magner, 71, of Waukon, IA, died surrounded by his family on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Memorial services will be held Friday, October 28th, at 1:00 PM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon with Fr. John Moser officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in West Ridge Cemetery in rural Waukon. An Irish celebration of life will be held from 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Thursday, October 27 th , at the Waukon Reception Center. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is handling arrangements.
Lawrence "Larry" Joseph Magner was born September 18, 1951, in La Crosse, WI, the son of Urban and Lillian (Howes) Magner. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's the Baptist - West Ridge Catholic Church and attended St. Patrick School in Waukon, graduating in 1969. On January 8, 1972, he married Alice Folsom Riley and to this union had three sons: James Riley and Darren and Kevin Magner and infant daughter Dana.
Larry began working for the Waukon Goodyear Tire Center in 1973, and continued until retiring after 45 years of service. He was a people person and truly enjoyed being around all the customers, especially the many farmers in the tri-state area.
On April 27, 1982, he met and fell in love with Julie Snitker. They married on February 14, 1986, and had two daughters: Crystal and Tami. In 1985, Larry and Julie bought the Magner family farm on West Ridge, where they farmed and raised beef cattle.
Larry enjoyed many things in life, from being outdoors to playing cards and socializing with many friends new and old. He truly loved everyone, especially his very blended family. Choo - Choo!
Survivors include his wife Julie of Waukon; his children: James (Stacy) Riley of Waukon, Darren (Ivy) Magner of Easley, SC, Crystal (Neal) Corwin of Waukon, and Tami (Jenna) Magner of Evansville, WI; grandchildren: Trystan and Kashton, Hannah (Brian), Emyleigh, Sara, and Olivia, Reed and Regan, and Charlee, Brooklyn, and Tynlee; great-grandchildren: Bristol and Collins; two sisters: Lorraine Drew of Waukon and Kay Mettille of Lansing; and two brothers: Jim and Frank Magner, both of Waukon. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Alice; son Kevin; infant daughter Dana; and sister Delores Schauls.
His beloved grandchildren will serve as honorary urnbearers and his daughter Crystal Corwin will be the urnbearer.
