Laila K. Pape, 80, of Waukon, IA, died Sunday, April 15, 2007 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 20th at 11:00 am at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Monona, IA, with Rev. Allen Bidne officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Luana, IA. Friends may greet the family from 9:30 until time of service on Friday at the church.
Laila Kathryn Pape was born on October 3, 1926 in Lansing, IA, the daughter of John T. and Florence C. (Orrben) McKee. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Lansing and graduated from Lansing High School. Laila taught school for 8 years at French Creek #1 and Vancollie rural schools. On September 23, 1952 she married Lyle Pape at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Lansing. They farmed together in Franklin Township, rural Luana for many years. Laila was a member of the Franklin Homemakers Club and Charity Circle of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She enjoyed crochet and liked to can the produce she raised in her garden.
Survivors include a son, Larry Pape of Waukon; a granddaughter, Laina Pape of Waukon; a brother, Everett (Marie) McKee of Postville; and 2 sisters-in-law, Florence McKee of Lansing and Leone McKee of Waukon. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lyle, who died in 1998; and 4 brothers, Francis "Dutch" (Delores) McKee, Arthur McKee, Ralph (Johanna) McKee and Edwin McKee.
