Kenneth E. "Hap" Peake, 82, of Waukon, IA, died Saturday, October 13, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse, WI. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 17th, at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon, with Pastor Grant VanderVelden officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM Tuesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Kenneth Eugene "Hap" Peake was born April 27, 1930 to Clarence and LaVerne (Kahrs) Peake at Mederville, Iowa. He graduated from Postville High School in 1948 and was married to JoAnn Haltmeyer on April 10, 1950. They were blessed with four children. Hap and JoAnn farmed with his parents north of Postville until 1964 when they moved to their dairy farm west of Waukon, where they farmed for 40 years. He loved farming and milking his Jersey cows. Hap also worked part time as an electrician with Bulman Electric. He retired in 1994 and remained living on the farm which was later purchased by his grandson, Jeremy Peake. He loved being part of the Peake Orchard family, helping with pruning, picking, and sorting. In 2012 Hap and JoAnn moved to a condo in Waukon which was right across the street from the Waukon Golf and Country Club where they were members. He enjoyed golfing regularly and watching the golfers.
Hap was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Waukon where he served as a deacon and elder as well as on the Presbytery Council and sang in the choir for many years. He enjoyed reading, especially the Bible. They spent their winters near Dade City, Florida where he enjoyed playing cards, golfing and the company of the wonderful people in their mobile home park.
He entered into God's Kingdom at the age of 82 on October 13, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Charlie Peake; a daughter-in-law Sandy Peake; three brothers-in-law: Gene, Gary, and Mark Haltmeyer; a sister-in-law Alice Haltmeyer-Klein; a niece Tina Soride; and a nephew Wayne Haltmeyer.
Survivors include his wife JoAnn; two daughters: Rev. Connie Peake of Darlington, Wisconsin and Cathy (Mick) Angel of Mount Vernon, Iowa; two sons: Alan (Cathy) Peake of Decorah, Iowa and Steve (Diane) Peake of Dubuque, Iowa; eleven grandchildren: Matt Kolsrud, Kristin Biedermann, Paul Kolsrud, Amy Bodensteiner, Angie Archer, Allisa Roemhild, Jeremy Peake, Scott Peake, Katie Peake, Eden Peake, and Hannah Peake; 17 great-grandchildren (with 2 more on the way); sisters-in-law Loraine Peake, Betty Haltmeyer, Kathy Haltmeyer, and Chris (Dennis) Soride; a brother-in-law Dennis Soride; and many nieces and nephews.
Hap's grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
