Kenneth John Nierling, 65, of Waukon, IA, died Saturday, January 31, 2015, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon after a short battle with cancer. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, February 4th, at 11:00 AM at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Conrad Rosendahl officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at St. Mary's Lycurgus Cemetery, rural Waukon. Friends may call from 9:30 am until the time of the services on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Kenny was born July 25, 1949, in Waukon, IA, the son of Anton Peter and Lenora May (Spores) Nierling. He was self-employed doing various types of work. On June 9, 1978, he married Julie Hamm in Waukon, IA. They later divorced. He enjoyed refinishing furniture, painting, and spending time in the outdoors especially hunting, trapping, and hunting for mushrooms and ginseng. Kenny valued his nightly card games with his friends who he treasured very much, and tried to teach many of his friends how to play cribbage. Kenny was a simple man; he touched the lives of many whether you were a victim of a cribbage or poker game. He also enjoyed his treats and his weekend trips with his friend Paula Klein.
Survivors include his children: Eric (Cindy) Nierling of Dubuque, IA, and Matt (Cindy) Nierling of Oxford Junction, IA; his eight grandchildren: Clay, Dakota, Rachel, Caleb, and Christopher Nierling, Dakota and Hunter Trowbridge, and Christian Smothers; two brothers: Tom (Judy) Nierling of Sterling, CO, and Lyle (Cherie) Nierling of Waukon; three sisters: Jean Lamb, Betty Snyder, and Letha (Lee) Folsom, all of Waukon; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Georgie, David, Bob, and Chuck Nierling; and a sister Mary Rosendahl.
