Kenneth L. Jeide, 69, of Waterville, IA, died Monday, October 5, 2009, at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City, IA. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 8th, at 11:00 AM at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon, IA, with Rev. Marie Paterik officiating. Burial with graveside military rites will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Wednesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Kenneth Lawrence Jeide was born on October 19, 1939 in Waukon, IA, the son of Lawrence A. and Lillian Marie (Snitker) Jeide. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion United Church of Christ, attended rural elementary schools, and graduated from Waukon High School in 1957. From 1962 until 1964 Kenneth served in the US Army where he took radio operator and medical corpsman training. Following his discharge he farmed in the West Ridge area of rural Waukon and did work for a number of other area farmers. In addition to farming, he worked for over 20 years at Hygrade Meat Packing in Postville, IA and for Riehm Construction of Waukon. On April 28, 1962 he married Mary Ann Stendel. They were later divorced. The past 18 years Kenneth has shared his life with Penny Howard.
Kenneth was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed the outdoors, spending time hunting when he was younger and remaining an avid fisherman. Some of his favorite times were spent taking leisurely drives through the local countryside, visiting with friends, and being with his family.
Survivors include his life partner, Penny Howard of Waterville; his 2 children, Wanda (Hank) Fahrenholz of Anaheim, CA and Mike (Jody Holthaus) Jeide of Waukon; Penny's children, Dave (Amy) Howard of Waukon and Missy (Mark) Meehan of Albertville, MN; his 5 grandchildren, Edward and Matthew Fahrenholz and Travis, Ashley, and Timothy Jeide; a great-granddaughter, Scotlyn; Penny's grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Brett, Max, and Jack; and a sister, Wilma (Larry) Bushman of Utica, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Casketbearers are Bud Stendel, Ozzie Quandahl, Dave Howard, Larry Jones, Randy Bushman, and Mark Bushman.
