Kenneth C. Flage, 76, of Waukon, IA, died Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 27th at 11:00 am at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon, with Rev. Larry Olson officiating. Burial with graveside military rites will be held in Oakland Cemetery in Waukon. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 pm Friday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Kenneth Charles Flage was born on June 15, 1929 on his parent's farm in Ludlow Township rural Waukon. He is the son of Harvey and Hazel (Henry) Flage. Kenneth was baptized and confirmed at Zalmona Presbyterian Church in rural Waukon. He attended rural elementary school in Ludlow Township and Waukon High School. From 1950 to 1951 he worked at Wilson Meat Packing Company in Cedar Rapids. From 1951 to 1953 he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a telephone switch board operator and saw duty in Italy. On June 15, 1955 he married LeOtia Ebner at French Creek Methodist Church in rural Lansing. They lived in La Crosse, WI for a short time where he worked for Sears. Kenneth and LeOtia then moved to Jefferson Township where they farmed from 1956 to 1981. In 1981 they moved to the Flage family farm in Ludlow Township. He began helping veterans in 1980 by coordinating a van to take them to the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City. Kenneth was also the director of the Veterans Affairs Office for Allamakee County and took great pride in assisting all veterans. He retired on June 30, 2005.
Kenneth was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as a trustee, elder and taught Sunday School. He had a strong faith and always trusted God to help him in his everyday living. Kenneth also served on the rural Jefferson Township Fire Board, Midland Co-op Board and was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He enjoyed camping trips out West with his family and spending time with his grandchildren and great-granddaughters and was very proud of their accomplishments. Kenneth also enjoyed bowling, playing cards and hunting in Wyoming with his friends and having a good time with many laughs and stories to tell with one another.
Survivors include his wife, LeOtia of Waukon; 3 daughters, Cindy (Lyle) Leikvold of Waukon, Linda (Bob) Lawrence of Stewartville, MN and Pam (Jeff) Christianson of Waukon; 3 grandchildren, Kerri (Chris) Gibbs, Todd Leikvold and Brittany Lawrence; a step-grandson, Daniel Lawrence; 2 great-granddaughters, Kaylee and Kiersten Gibbs; a sister, Mary (Louis) Erickson of Rogers, AR; a brother, Dr. L. John (Karen) Flage of Independence, IA; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Casketbearers were Paul Ebner, Craig Flage, Bob Lawrence, Jeff Christianson, Lyle Leikvold, Carl Christainson, Joe Palmer and Don Dehning.
