Kenneth M. Ewing, 87, of Waukon, IA, died Friday, February 8, 2013, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 11th, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Waukon, IA, with Rev. Richard Iles officiating. Burial with military rites will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 10:00 AM until time of service at the church on Monday. Martin Funeral Home of Waukon is handling arrangements.


Kenneth Milton Ewing was born on November 9, 1925 in the Forest Mills area, rural Postville, IA, farm of his parents, Charles "Haley" and Ruby (Bray) Ewing Sr. He was baptized and confirmed at Forest Mills United Methodist Church where he remained a life-long member. Kenny attended rural Forest Mills area schools and later earned his GED in 1981. After working for a time for area farmers, he enlisted as a young man in the US Army where he served as a Staff Sargent and saw duty during WWII and the Korean War in Okinawa, Japan, and Korea. Following his discharge in 1952 he returned home and on January 18, 1953 married Margaret "Marge" Stegen in Dubuque, IA. They moved to Charles City, IA where Kenny worked for White Tractor, and then to Milwaukee where he was a machinist for Ladish Manufacturing. They moved back to Waukon and Kenny worked at the Waukon Creamery and for 25 years at the HyGrade Meat Packing Plant in Postville. His last positions were in the maintenance department at the Waukon Jr. High School, the Allamakee County Courthouse, and Robey memorial Library.


Kenneth was an avid fisherman and included his family in many of his adventures. He was an excellent cook and an accomplished handyman; being able to fix anything around the house or garage and he loved to pitch in and help anyone whenever he was able. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and thought the world of his family.


Survivors include his wife Marge of Waukon; his 3 children: Vicki (Joe) Price of Decorah, IA, Connie (Craig) Rocksvold of Waukon, and Amy (Craig) Wiemerslage of New Albin, IA; 6 grandchildren and their families: Keni and Andrea Ewing and children Cooper and Carsyn, Emily and Andy Orvella and children Evan and Axle, Lucas and Annie Rocksvold and children Ryan and Abigail, Allie Klein, Amanda Fahey, and Skyler Fahey; a sister, Helen "Tiny" May of Waterville, IA; and his twin brother, Keith "Red" (Joan) Ewing of Albany, OR. He is preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers: Willis, Arthur, Charles Jr., and Harry Ewing; and a sister, Ruth Bloxham.

Honorary casketbearers are Lester Stahl, Jerry Ewing, Donald Ewing, Mike Stegen, Dean Volkes, Barry Sharp, Kenny Nierling, Roger Vickery, and Chuck Bloxham. Casketbearers are John May, Mark Ewing, John May, Jr., Craig Rocksvold, Joe Price, and Lucas Rocksvold.
