Kenneth 'Cod' Brandt, 88, of Waukon, IA, died Friday, August 26, 2011, at his residence in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 30th, at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, IA, with Fr. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial with Military rites will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM Monday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon where there will be a 4:00 PM Parish Scripture Service.
Kenneth William "Cod" Brandt was born February 19, 1923 in Postville, IA to Ray and Malinda (Reinhardt) Brandt. He graduated from Waukon High School in 1940. Cod served in the Army as a tank commander in the European Theater during WWII. On April 22, 1946 he married Betty Byrnes at the St. Patrick rectory in Waukon. For 30 years he owned and operated two gas stations in Waukon. For 10 years he was an Insurance Adjustor with German Farmers Mutual Insurance. Cod and Betty managed the St. Vincent DePaul Store for 25 years. Cod was a member of the VFW and served on the Board of Directors of the Waukon Food Shelf.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Brandt of Waukon; five children, Julie Brandt of Cary, N.C., Tom Brandt of Minneapolis, MN, Paul Brandt of Kalona, IA, Mark Brandt of Minneapolis, MN and Matt Brandt of Cedar Rapids, IA; 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and a brother, Harold Brandt of St. Augustine, FL.
Casketbearers are Nate Brandt, Peter Brandt, Tony Brandt, Stephen Brandt, Adam Brandt, Joseph Brandt and Luke Wind.
