Kay M. Welper, 51, of Waukon, IA, formerly of New Hampton, IA, died Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Memorial services will be held Saturday, October 29th, at 11:00 AM at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn G. Groe officiating. Friends may call from 9:30 am until time of services on Saturday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

Kathleen Marie Welper was born on January 29, 1960 in Waukon, IA the daughter of Donald and Evelyn (McCormick) Welper. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's Lycurgus Catholic Church in rural Waukon. Kay graduated from Waukon High School in 1978 and Allen Memorial School of Radiology in Waterloo, IA, in 1980. She worked at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo as an X-Ray Technician. Kay later moved to New Hampton where she worked at St. Joseph's Community Hospital as the head of the Radiology Department and also worked in other departments as she was needed. Kay was currently working for HQAA in Waterloo as an accredation coach.

Kay was a past member of the New Hampton Jaycee's where she was very active and held various positions. She was also a member of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Kay loved wood working which she would use for her crafts, painting, writing stories of her childhood while growing up on the farm and telling stories about many things. Her favorite times were with her family, especially her nieces and nephews.

Survivors include her parents, Donald and Evelyn Welper of Waukon; a sister, Karen (Daryl) Beneke of New Albin, IA; 4 brothers, Steve (Becky) Welper of Waukon, Rick (Carol) Welper of Lansing, IA, Bob (Dee) Welper of Jefferson, WI and Ron (Debbie) Welper of Shallowater, TX; 5 nieces and 7 nephews. She is preceded in death by an infant brother, Joseph Welper.
