Julie A. Schulte, 50, of Dorchester, IA, died Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, IA. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 1st, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Dorchester Catholic Church in Dorchester, with Fr. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial will be held in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 - 7:00 PM Sunday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon where there will be a 3:00 pm scripture service.
Julie Ann Schulte was born on June 11, 1959 in Waukon, IA, the daughter of Vernis and Irene (Mangels) Engelhardt. She attended the Little Red School House in the Forest Mills area, graduated from Waukon High School in 1977 and attended NICC in Calmar, IA. On September 8, 1990 she married Dave Schulte at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon. They farmed together in Waterloo Township in rural Dorchester where they raised crops, hogs and beef cattle. Julie worked in the Allamakee County Assessor's Office from 1979 until 1995. She then started a career working with persons with disabilities at TASC Inc. in Waukon and she was currently working at ABLE in Caledonia, MN where she served on several boards.
Julie was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dorchester where she was active in its ladies circles and was a CCD teacher. She enjoyed raising and riding horses, working in her flower gardens, cross stitching, traveling especially vacations with her family and following her children's school activities. She also enjoyed family gatherings.
Survivors include her husband, Dave Schulte of Dorchester; 4 children, Benjamin, Nicole, Matthew and Michael Schulte all at home; a brother, Dean (Sue) Engelhardt and their son James of Fairfax Station, VA; a special aunt, Lolita Engelhardt of Postville, IA; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lloyd and Ruth Ann Schulte of Waukon; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Rick Schulte of San Ramon, CA, Randy (Julie) Schulte of Brooklyn Park, MN, Craig (Amy) Schulte of Eagan, MN and Laurie (Jeff) Carpenter of Appleton, WI. She is preceded in death by her parents; her mother-in-law, Shirley Schulte; a grandmother, Paula Mangels and an uncle, Oran Engelhardt.
Honorary casketbearers are Julie's many friends. Casketbearers are Joe Egan, Richard Runde, Brian and Cody Meyer, Connor Schulte and Tim Schwartzhoff.
