Julie Annette Nordheim

Julie A. Nordheim, 75, of Decorah, IA, died Friday, May 12, 2023, at her home in rural Decorah. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 19th, at 11:00 AM at Martin - Grau Funeral Home in Waukon, IA, with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in Big Canoe Cemetery in rural Decorah. Friends may greet the family from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Thursday at Martin - Grau Funeral Home in Waukon.

Julie Annette Nordheim was born May 9, 1948, in Decorah, IA, the daughter of Dervin Bernell and Phyllis Corrine (Knutson) Faldet. She was baptized at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church in rural Decorah and confirmed at Calmar Lutheran Church in Calmar, IA. Julie graduated from South Winneshiek High School in Calmar in 1966. On May 29, 1970, she married James "Jim" Edward Nordheim at Calmar Lutheran Church. They lived in La Crosse for a couple of years and she worked as a telephone operator. In 1972, they moved to Waukon and lived on the Tom White dairy cattle farm. Julie worked at the IPLA Sale Barn in Waukon as an office manager for over 20 years. When they closed their doors, she began working in home health care for Veterans Memorial Hospital. In 2011, they moved to Decorah, where she worked at The Spectrum Network. Julie loved working with the clients and they all brought her so much joy. Her grandchildren loved visiting her at The Spectrum Thrift Store to see what treasures they could find. Julie retired in 2022, but still kept in touch with her special friends at Spectrum.

Julie loved the outdoors, particularly working in her garden and watching and feeding the birds. Julie, Jim, and the family spent almost 40 summers at Camp Lacupolis in Wabasha, MN, where they fished, tubed, and skied on Lake Pepin. She was an avid sports fan and knew the ins and outs of all her favorite teams. She especially loved the Iowa Hawkeyes and her grandchildren's teams; Julie was the number one fan at all of their games. Julie also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. When her grandchildren would visit, you could count on her making goulash, which was their favorite thing to eat at her house. She looked forward to the annual Christmas shopping trip with her daughters, which was sure to be full of shenanigans, the Amana Colonies Christmas prelude, and weekly visits from her son, where they would share a Mabe's pizza together. When she was at home she had her two cats, Miles and LaMar, to keep her company in between visits from family and friends.

Survivors include her children: Amanda (Jay) McGeough, Aaron Nordheim, and Amy (James) Johnson; her grandchildren: Caleb Nordheim, Kristen and Mason McGeough, Ella, Finley, and Cooper Johnson; her mother Phyllis Faldet; a sister Linda (Stan) Brandt; a brother-in-law Roger Larson; her mother-in-law Eileen Nordheim; a sister-in-law Laurel Nordheim; two brothers-in-law: Randy (Patty) Nordheim and Michael Nordheim; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father; her husband Jim, who died in 2019; and a sister Nadine Larson.

Honorary casketbearers are Julie's grandchildren.
