Josephine "Jo" E. Dittman, 76, of Waukon, IA, died Sunday, November 7, 2010, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 10th, at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Joseph Schneider and Rev. Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Family graveside services will be held at a later date. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM Tuesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon where there will be a 4:00 pm Scripture Service. Memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Society in Waukon.
Josephine "Jo" Elizabeth Dittman was born December 17, 1933 in rural Hospers, IA, the daughter of John and Bernadette (Hollis) Klein. She attended rural elementary schools in the Hospers area. On May 9, 1954 she married Delbert Jacob Dittman in South Sioux City, NE. They lived in the Sheldon area until 1968 before moving to Rock Rapids, IA. In 1976 they moved to Waukon, where Jo was a bus driver for the Allamakee County School District and worked at the Good Samaritan Society in Waukon as a Certified Nursing Assistant for over twenty years. Jo was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. She enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower gardens, camping, traveling, playing cards, feeding the birds, spending time with her family and following her grandchildren's activities.
Survivors include her children, Martha (Tim) Cooper of Waukon, Mike of Waukon, Steve (Gaye) of LaGrange, GA, Julie Dittman of Maryland, David (Barbara) of LaGrange, GA, Lyle of LaGrange, GA, Dan (Yanielith) of Orlando, FL, Greg of Woodstock, GA, Lisa (Tom) Ewing of Waukon, Laura (Jeremy) Daniel of Salt Lake City, UT and Dominic of Urbandale, IA; 23 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 7 sisters, Bernice (Paul) Schwebach of Plymouth, MN, Elenora Jungers of Sheldon, IA, Margie (Larry) Huygens of Sioux Center, IA, Marie (John) Luke of Marion, SD, Geraldine (Wayne) Hardin of Primghar, IA, Charlotte Watts of Ashland, NE and Theresa (Larry) Gathman of Springfield, MO. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Delbert who died in 2004; a daughter, Christina; a son, Patrick; a brother, Harold Klein and 2 infant brothers.
