Joseph H. Gesing, 84, of Waukon, IA, died Friday, July 27, 2012 in Waukon, IA. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 30th at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Father Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial will be held in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Waukon. Friends may call from 3:00 to 7:00 PM on Sunday, July 29th at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, where there will be a 3:00 PM Scripture Service.
Joseph Henry Gesing was born September 17, 1927 in Calmar, IA, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Heying) Gesing. He attended Catholic Schools in Winneshiek County. On April 30, 1951 he married Leona Komarek in Protivin, IA. In 1955 they moved to a farm in Jefferson Township where they raised livestock and crops. They moved to Waukon in 1981, Joe remained active with farming until recently. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. He enjoyed going to farm sales, collecting antique tractors and attending his grandchildren's activities.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years Leona of Waukon; his children, Wayne of Alameda, CA, Joanne (Paul) Jacob of Suisun, CA, Merlin (Becky) of Waukon, Mark of Maricopa, AZ, and Kevin (Mary) of Cedar Rapids, IA; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Magdalene Lavine of Mt. Lebanon Pennsylvania. He is preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Ethan Gesing; 2 brothers, Ivo and Ralph Gesing; 6 sisters, Irene Frana, Eunice Henderson, Gladys Wenthold, Rita Johnson, Gretrude Gesing and Betty Gesing.
