Jordeen 'George' L Fosaaen, 86, of Waukon, IA, died Friday, March 23, 2012, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 27th, at 11:00 AM at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn G. Groe officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM Tuesday at Martin Funeral Home.
Jordeen 'George' LaVern Fosaaen was born on August 13, 1925 in Ossian, IA, to Oscar and Laura (Hagelia) Fosaaen. George was baptized and confirmed at Stavanger Lutheran Church at Ossian. George grew up and attended school in the Ossian area. After school he worked as a hired hand for a farmer until he was called to serve in the Army from April 1945 to December 1947. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. After the service he farmed on the family farm.
On December 6, 1954 he married Edna (Brink) Thornton in Prairie du Chien, WI. They lived in Janesville, WI, where he worked for General Motors for 25 years. After retiring in 1980 they moved to the Rossville area. George's pride and joy was the house boat that he and Edna built and enjoyed using on a lake in Wisconsin and later on the Mississippi River near Harpers Ferry. He loved to garden and each year kept the seeds he needed to start new plants in the spring. George is known for his great sense of humor and that great big smile that he always had.
Survivors include his sister, Darlene (Roy) Klitzke of New Glarus, WI; his brother, Marvin (Joan) Fosaaen of Georgetown, FL; 3 step-children, Pauline LaVelle of Edgerton, WI, Carl (Joyce) Thornton of Waukon and Dorothy Thompson of Oceanside, CA; 15 step-grandchildren; 34 step-great-grandchildren; 5 step-great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Edna Fosaaen on April 19, 1994; a sister, Ethel Zweibohmer; a sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Albert Valland; a brother Obert Fosaaen; and a step-daughter Margaret and her husband Lester Carter.
Casketbearers are Merle Carter, Bobby and David La Velle, Alan, Kevin and Jeff Thornton.
