John Theis

John E. Theis, 95, of Macomb, Illinois passed away on Tuesday Oct. 31, 2023 at the Lamoine Assisted Living in Macomb, IL. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 4th, at 11:00 AM at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Waukon with Fr. John Moser officiating. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is handling arrangements.

John Everett Theis was born July 26, 1928 in Riceville, Iowa to Harry and Hazel (Marr) Theis. He first married Myrtle Marie Ahlstrom on July 30, 1948. She preceded him in death on March 6, 1964. He later married Janice Forey on June 30, 1973. She preceded him in death on July 31, 2023.

John worked for Theis Mens Clothing Stores, which was owned by his father Harry Theis.  He was a Drug Representative for J.W. Edgerly and McPike Drugs. After his retirement from McPike Drug Company, he worked part time for Nelson's Clothing Store in Macomb, IL.

He enjoyed landscaping, gardening, and playing euchre. John was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, where he served as an usher, eucharistic minister and was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He also was a member of the Barbershop Chorus for several years.

John is survived by five sons: Steve Theis of Colfax, IA, Michael (Sue) Theis of Newton, IA, Kevin (Janelle) Theis of Waverly, IA, Joel (Joni) Theis of Colchester, IL, and Timothy (Sandy) Theis of Pinson, AL; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother Tom Theis of Hiawatha, IA; and a sister Linda Manning of Lansing, IA.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jan on July 31, 2023; and two brothers: Dale and James Theis.
