John Ralph Schon, 88, of Waukon, IA, died Monday, August 6, 2007 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 10th at 10:30 am at First Baptist Church in Waukon, with Pastor Duane Smith officiating. Burial will be held in Oakland Cemetery in Waukon. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
John Ralph Schon was born August 6, 1919 in Center Township rural Lansing, IA. His parents were John Konrad and Hazel Evelyn (Shogren) Schon. He attended rural Allamakee Country Schools. Ralph farmed with his father in Makee Township. In 1936 they moved to a farm in Jefferson Township. On February 19, 1947 he married Jean C. Peterson at the First Presbyterian Parsonage in Waukon. Ralph and Jean continued to farm in Jefferson Township where they raised hogs, beef cattle and Jersey cows, which he was very proud of. Ralph also worked for his brother-in-law, Harold Herman as an electrician and for Scandinavian Insurance Company in Waukon, as an insurance adjuster. He and Jean farmed until 1985. Ralph has been a resident at the Good Samaritan Center since March of 2004. Ralph was a member of First Baptist Church, Gideon's International and Farm Bureau. He enjoyed collecting toy tractors, working in his yard, traveling, visiting with his grandchildren and spending time with his brother and sister.
Survivors include his wife, Jean C. of Waukon; 2 sons, Jay and Jeff (Janet) both of Waukon; 4 grandchildren, Andrew, Adam, Scotti Lynn and Matthew Schon; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Schon of Waukon, IA. He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donald Schon and a sister, Evelyn Herman.
Casketbearers were Dave and Dale Schon, Jim Meier, John Goettel, Willard Kerndt and Dan Byrnes.
