John Allen Schild was born November 4, 1942, in Cedar Falls, IA, the son of Ralph and Alice Mae (Goettel) Schild. He attended school in Finchford and graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1960. John met Judy Bauer on a blind date that was set up by her college roommate in April of 1965. They then married were married on December 5, 1965. They have been married for 20,686 days (56 years). John always knew how many days! He could rattle this off any day he was asked.

He worked at John Deere in Waterloo and farmed for 35 years, retiring in 1998. After retiring from John Deere, they moved to Lansing and opened Eagle's Nest Art Gallery and Frame Shop in November of 1998. This was John's happy place. He enjoyed building the frames, but most of all, he enjoyed visiting with all of their customers, many of whom have turned into good friends.

Since selling the gallery in 2018, John and Judy have officially retired. During his retirement, John enjoyed feeding the deer and birds, watching the Chicago White Sox, having dinner with friends, and going on convertible rides with his wife.

John was an adrenaline junkie. He loved all things fast: snowmobiles, boats, and cars. John tried his hand at golf for one semester and sold his clubs for a boat and motor. If you ask anyone who knew John, they would describe him as kind, generous, and humble. If he met someone without a smile, he would give them one of his. He took immense pride in his wife, his children, and his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Judy Schild of Lansing; his children: Scott (Ginger) Schild of Clarksville and Shelly (Chris) Johannsen of Decorah; his grandchildren: Dianna Schild, and Megan (fiancé TJ), Jamie, and Adam Wallace. He is preceded in death by his parents; a grandson Kain Schild; and his brother Myron Schild.

Casketbearers are Megan, Jamie, and Adam Wallace, Chris Johannsen, Dianna Schild, and TJ Lenaerts.
