John "Chuck" D. Luther, 87, of Waukon, IA, died Monday, February 27, 2012, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 1st, at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial with Military Rites will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM Wednesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon where there will be a Parish Scripture Service at 4:00 PM.

John "Chuck" Daniel Luther was born on September 1, 1924 the son of Jack and Margaret (Sullivan) Luther. He attended St. Patrick Grade School and graduated from St. Patrick High School in 1943. Chuck served in the US Army from 1943 to 1946. He was stationed in the Pacific Theater where he earned numerous combat medals including a Purple Heart. Following the military he attended Loras College for one year. On June 14, 1955 he married Fran Riley at St. Raphael's Cathedral in Dubuque, IA. Chuck worked as a salesman and was a member of the KCs and the VFW. He enjoyed golf and following the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and Iowa Hawkeyes.


Survivors include his wife, Fran Luther of Waukon; 3 sons, Bill (Kyong Hye) Luther of Harker Heights, TX, Tom Luther of Batavia, IL and David (Brenda) Luther of Byron, MN; 8 grandchildren, Sara, Kelly, Andy, Lee, Zac, Emily, Melissa and Nic Luther; and one brother, James Luther of Cary, IL. He is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter-in-law, Rhonda Luther; 2 sisters, Dorothy O'Riley and Mary Brandt; and one brother, Bob Luther.

Casketbearers are Andy, Zac, Nic and Jay Luther, Jan Sweeney and Kirk Roggensack.
