John C. Baumgartner, 61, of Waukon, IA, died Sunday, February 9, 2014, at Mayo Clinic Health System Franciscan Healthcare in LaCrosse, WI. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 13th, at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon, with Pastor Grant VanderVelden officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM Wednesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
John Charles Baumgartner, Jr., was born December 19, 1952, in Waukon, IA, the son of Robert John and Joyce C. (Moen) Baumgartner, Sr. He was baptized and confirmed at Salem United Church of Christ in rural Waukon. John graduated from Waukon High School in 1971. He served in the United States Army from 1972 until 1974. On April 20, 1974 he married Janet Sue Reeder at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon. Following her death, in 2007, he met Tina Folsom and later became engaged. John worked at Welch Fertilizer, and Waukon Equity Co-op. He owned and operated JB trucking for several years. John loved his work and was proud of the business he had built. John was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his children: Jodi (Rodney) Ihde of Luana, IA, Jill (Olaf) Johnson, Joshua Baumgartner, Jason Baumgartner, and Jayme Baumgartner all of Waukon: six grandchildren: Morgan, Avery and Spencer Ihde, and Kern, Laney and Liza Johnson: one great-grandchild: Piper Ihde; his fiancée Tina Folsom and her children Dylan Bork and Brandi Folsom all of Waukon; six sisters: Janice Cooper of Waukon, Sandra (Steve) Butler of Decorah, IA, Jeanene Miller, of Missouri, Sharon (Jim) Rathbun of Waterville, IA, Carol Jeide of Waukon, and Lori Brainard of Ridgeway, IA, four brothers: Dennis (Sandra) Baumgartner of Fairfax, IA, Darrell (Alice) Baumgartner of Waukon, Richard Baumgartner of Waukon, and Neil Baumgartner of Luana, IA; and an aunt Alice (Gary) Bulman of Waukon. He is preceded in death by his parents; and his wife Janet.
Honorary casketbearers are his grandchildren and great-grandchild. Casketbearers are Roger Frick, Darrel Palmer, Mike and Kevin Cooper, Cody Sylvester, and Jerry Donahue.
