Joanne V. Lier, 50, of Waterville, IA, died Sunday, December 6, 2009, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 12th, at 11:00 AM at St. Pius Cherry Mound Catholic Church in rural Harpers Ferry, IA, with Fr. Louis Trzil officiating. Burial will be at St. Pius Cherry Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:30 PM - 8:00 PM Friday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, where there will be a 3:30 pm scripture service.
Joanne Violet Lier was born on September 17, 1959 in Waukon, IA, the daughter of John Francis Donahue and Theresa Mary Howe. She was baptized at Immaculate Conception Wexford Catholic Church in rural Harpers Ferry. She attended school in Waterville and Lansing before graduating from Waukon High School in 1978. On October 7, 1978 Joanne married Randy Allan Lier at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon. In addition to being a busy mother and homemaker, she worked for Northern Engraving in Waukon for 14 years before complications from MS forced her retirement.
Joanne was very family oriented and together they liked spending time at the river boating and fishing. She also enjoyed keeping up with all of the activities of her children, being with her grandchildren, and going on special outings with her sisters.
Survivors include her husband Randy of Waterville; 3 sons, Bob (Amber), Ross (Megan), and Jamie (Alyssa), all of Waukon; 7 grandchildren, Kody, Brayden, McKenzie, & Kooper Lier and Chyenne, Christopher, & Cadence Starkey; her mother and step-father Theresa and Ed Helgeson of Decorah; her step-mother, Janice Donahue of Waterville; 3 brothers, Jerry (Michelle) Donahue and Dale (Pie) Donahue, both of Waukon, and John (Anna) Donahue of Amarillo, TX; and 2 sisters, Diane (Scott) Pederson of Waukon and Sharon (Bob) Barr of Janesville, IA. She is preceded in death by her father, John Donahue; and her mother and father-in-law, Joe and Cora Lier.
Honorary casketbearers are her grandchildren. Casketbearers are her sons and brothers.
