Joana Marie Pladsen

Joana M. Pladsen, 80, of Waukon, IA, died Friday, July 24, 2020, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. There are no services planned at this time. Martin-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Waukon are handling the arrangements. Joana Marie Pladsen was born October, 30, 1939, near New Albin, IA, the daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Waters) Pladsen. She and her family moved to a farm south of Waukon, where she lived the rest of her life. She went to Jefferson #4 school and graduated from Waukon High School in 1958. Joana farmed with her father, her brother John, and most recently with her nephew Jim. She worked with her father's sawmill, drove tractors, and cared for the cattle, chickens, and cats. For many years, Joana was a companion and care giver to her mother. She enjoyed taking care of all types of plants and animals and was a careful observer of the weather and skies. Joana loved to read, feed the birds, and walk along the gravel roads.

Survivors include two nephews: James Pladsen of Waukon and John (Deb) Pladsen and their children Katie and Will, all of Chanhassen, MN; a sister-in-law Mary Pladsen of Waukon; and many cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother John.

The family wishes to thank everyone at Gundersen Health System, Veterans Memorial Hospital, and Northgate Care Center for their kind and expert care for Joana.
