Jean Audrey Berge

Jean A. Berge, 96, of Waukon, IA, died Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. A private family graveside was held at Oakland Cemetery in Waukon with Pastor Bryan Robertson officiating. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon handled arrangements. Jean Audrey Evans Berge was born June 13, 1923, in Postville, IA, the daughter of Milo and Alice (Meier) Folsom. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, IA, attended Allamakee country schools and Waukon High School, and later received her GED. On December 23, 1939, she married Chester John Evans at St. John's Lutheran Church. Chester died in 1957. Jean was a certified dietary technician and worked at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon as a dietary supervisor for over 30 years. Jean was also a foster parent and worked at Kwik Trip. On December 11, 1971, she married Carl Theodore Berge at St. John's Lutheran Church.  Carl died in 1989.

Jean was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where she was active in the ladies groups. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Jean enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower gardens, baking, and cleaning. She loved to travel throughout the United States, especially to see her family, and took bus trips with her sister Patsy.

Survivors include her children: Neil (Malinda) Evans of The Villages, FL, Larry (Ellen) Evans of Knoxville, TN, and Gayle Evans of Waukon, IA; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister Patsy Kerndt of Lansing, IA; and a daughter-in-law Eileen Evans of Geneva, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands Chester and Carl; a son Grant Evans; a grandson Brian Evans; a sister Betty (Ralph) Shafer; two brothers: Charles (Pearl) Folsom, and Roland (Irene) Folsom; and a brother-in-law Donald Kerndt.

Casketbearers are Paige and D.J. Mauss, and Gayle and Brice Evans.
