Janice Winter

Janice J. (Duvel) Winter, 86, of Waukon, IA, died Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Services will be held Saturday, May 20th, at 11:00 AM at Salem United Church of Christ in rural Waukon with Pastor Sue Klimstra officiating and burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may greet the family starting at 9:30 AM until the time of services on Saturday at the church. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is handling arrangements.

Janice Jean Winter was born June 8, 1936, at Lizze Sherman Nursing Home in Waukon, IA, the only child of Edwin and Leona (Snitker) Duvel. She was baptized & confirmed at Salem United Church of Christ. She attended country grade school at Bell School and continued on to graduate from Waukon High School in 1954. On March 24, 1957, Janice married Cletus D. Winter at Salem UCC. Together they were blessed with three children: Gwendolyn, Gregory, and Wade. They lived on the Donald Flage acreage while Cletus worked for Don. Years later, they purchased the same acreage before purchasing their forever home in Waukon. After high school, Janice worked as a bookkeeper for Eclipse Lumber Yard and later worked at Northern Engraving in Waukon. She also volunteered her time at St. Vincent Thrift Store.

Janice was a member of Salem UCC and their women's guild, where she was a treasurer and helped on the kitchen committee. She enjoyed playing cards, going to church, going on rides in the country, eating out, trips to the casino, and spending time with her family - especially her great-grandchildren's birthday parties.

Janice wants everyone to believe in a higher being. She was very thankful for her parents and Grandma Pauline for getting her to church and Sunday school every chance that they could.

Survivors include her children: Gwendolyn (Mike) Lloyd and Gregory Winter; eight grandchildren: Dan (Lacy) Lloyd, Jeremy (Ruth) Lloyd, Elizabeth (Nick) Anderson, Trish (Brady) Iverson, Shawn (Ashlee) Lloyd, Heather (Chad) Jones, Nick (Amanda) Winter, Ashley (Tim) Ryan; 23 great-grandchildren: Cashton, Caidee, Cael, Carlei, and Cami Lloyd, Riley, Bailey, Promise, and Trinity Lloyd, Stella, Ivy, and Jewel Iverson, Avery Adam, Kody (Berklee Hanson) Lier, Tyler, Trent, and Hudson Jones, Wayde, Harper, and Emery Winter, Alexa Meyer, and Eli and Riley Ryan; a great-great-granddaughter on the way; a special nephew Jerry Halverson; and many other nieces and nephews. Janice was preceded in death by her parents Edwin and Leona Duvel; her husband Cletus Winter in 2004; her son Wade in 1987; and special cousins Wayne and Donus Duvel.

Janice and her family would like to thank the staff at Northgate Care Center and St. Croix Hospice for their compassionate and excellent care. Janice wanted to extend a special thank you to the "500 Senior Card Club Members" and all of her friends who gave her rides.

Honorary casketbearers are her granddaughters. Casketbearers are Dan, Jeremy, and Shawn Lloyd, Nick Winter, Chad Jones, Nick Anderson, Brady Iverson, and Tim Ryan.
