Jack F. Duffy

Jack F. Duffy, 86, of Waukon, IA, died Saturday, February 2, 2013, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 5th, at 11:00 AM at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon, with Pastor Samantha Houser officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will be at Phelps Cemetery, Decorah, IA, in the spring. Friends may call from 4:00 - 7:00 PM Monday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

John Francis Duffy was born November 26, 1926, in Minneapolis, MN, the son of John Earl and Celestine Rosalia (Mullen) Duffy. He attended high school in the Minneapolis area. Jack served in the Merchant Marines as an Able-bodied Seaman during WWII. After the war he went to work for Northwestern Drug in Minneapolis. On May 24, 1947, he married Elsie Mae Holst in Minneapolis. They moved to Decorah, where he went to work for Lofstuen Beverage before he started a career with Interstate Power Company, where he started out in the engineering department. Jack moved to Waukon in 1966, where he became the area manager for Interstate Power Company until his retirement in 1988. He and Elsie wintered in Winter Haven, FL, where he was member of the Swiss Golf and Tennis Club.

Jack was a member of Congregational United Church of Christ in Decorah and most recently Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon. He was active in Jaycees, Lions Club, and Chamber of Commerce both in Decorah and Waukon, and Decorah Fire Department. Jack was a member of Allamakee School District Booster Club, Silvercrest Golf and Country Club in Decorah, and Waukon Golf and Country Club, where he enjoyed golfing with his friends. He was an avid follower of high school sports and the Iowa Hawkeyes. When Jack was younger he enjoyed playing fast pitch softball.

Survivors include a son Steve (Denise) Duffy of Decorah, IA; a granddaughter Brenna (fiancé Chris Bass) Duffy of Cedar Rapids, IA; a grandson Brett (friend Kerry Meighan) Duffy of Cedar Rapids, IA; 2 sisters: Betty Ratner and Mary Allen and a brother Earl (Jan) Duffy, all of Minneapolis, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Elsie; and a brother William C. Duffy.

Casketbearers are Pat McMillan, Randy Hesse, Randy Sweeney, Brett Duffy, Chris Bass and Joe Schwartzhoff.
