Irving "Irv" S. Walsh, 85, of Waukon, IA, died Wednesday, February 11, 2015, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 14th, at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Jim Dubert and Deacon Mike Ward officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will be at St. John the Baptist -- West Ridge Cemetery, rural Waukon. Friends may call from 4:00 - 7:00 PM Friday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon where there will be a 3:45 pm scripture service.
Irving Stephen Walsh was born August 16, 1929, at his parents' home in Fairview Township in rural Waterville, IA, the son of Stephen and Marjorie (Molitor) Walsh. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Pius Cherry Mound Catholic Church in rural Harpers Ferry, IA. Irv attended schools in Allamakee County. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War from January 3, 1952 to December 14, 1955. Irv was a Boatswain's Mate Third Class and served as a loader on a 50 caliber gun and as a gun captain on a five inch turret gun. On May 19, 1948, he married Mary Lou Marsden at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church West Ridge in rural Waukon. Irv was a mechanic and transportation director for the Allamakee School District bus barn until he retired in 1991. After he retired he went to work for the Equity Co-op in Waukon where he worked as a mechanic and drove truck for several years.
Irv was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, going to flea markets, and collecting antiques.
Survivors include his wife Mary Lou Walsh of Waukon; a brother James (Beverly) Walsh of Waukon; two sisters: Jean (Joe) Kroack of Waukon and Sharon (Don) Kouba of Hiawatha, IA; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his son Stephen Walsh; and his step-father George Topel.
Honorary casketbearers are Lawrence Benda, Bryan Bollman, Jerry Bollman, Pat Curtin, Gordon Kaeser, Don Kouba, Joe Kroack, and Jerry Schroedel. Casketbearers are Cory and Casey Walsh, Steve Barth, Dale and Richard Wagner, and Kim Walsh.
