Irene Dorothea Stock

Irene D. Stock, 89, of Waukon, IA, died Monday, February 3, 2020, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 8th, at 11:00 AM at the Waukon Banquet Center with Pastor Ronald Pederson officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Friday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to King of Grace Lutheran Church, 639 9th St. NW, Waukon, IA 52172; the Evangelical Lutheran Synod, 6 Browns Ct., Mankato, MN 56001; or Veterans Memorial Health Care Foundation, Waukon, IA 52172.

Irene Dorothea Stock was born July 14, 1930, in Caledonia, MN, the daughter of George and Elsie (Schroeder) Meyer. She was baptized on July 21, 1930, at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Caledonia, by Rev. R. Jeske. Her sponsors were her maternal grandmother Mrs. Werner Schroeder and Mrs. Alfred Beneke. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John's on June 25, 1944, by Rev. R. Jeske and Rev. K.A. Gurgel. She attended Houston County District No. 44 District through eighth grade and graduated from Caledonia High School on May 28, 1948. From 1951-58, she worked for C.B. Kurz Dental Office in Caledonia as a dental assistant and office manager. On April 27, 1958, she married Robert James Stock at St. John's, Caledonia. Irene and Bob farmed together in rural Waukon for more than 40 years, milking cows and raising registered Chester White hogs and grain. She and Bob also raised their seven children together on the farm. They moved into Waukon in November of 1994.

She was an active member of King of Grace Lutheran Church in Waukon, where she was in the ladies group. Irene was a master of several things including sewing, gardening, baking, cooking, and canning pickles. Irene also enjoyed quilting, rosemaling, baking and decorating cakes for special occasions, making wine, playing the accordion, and listening to music. She loved spending time with her family and friends and her favorite drink was a Holstein high ball.

Survivors include her children: Joan (Dennis) Behr of Madison, WI, Jane Regan of Harpers Ferry, Kaye Anderson of Rochester, MN, and Lyle (Annette), Lynn (Melanie), Kent (Rhonda), and Mark (Stacy), all of Waukon; 11 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law: Shirley Colson of Rochester, MN, Ella Mae Dvorak of Waukon, and Ruth Meyer of Red Wing, MN; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert James, who died in 2018; a grandson Chase Regan; and two brothers Lloyd and Milton Meyer.

Honorary urnbearers are Marlys Leiran and the Century Club Ladies. Urnbearers are Mitch Regan, Drew and Duel Stock.
