Howard Sylvester Sorenson

August 18, 1929 — July 21, 2012

Howard S. Sorenson, 82, of Lansing, IA, died Saturday, July 21, 2012, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 25th, at 11:00 AM at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn Groe officiating. Burial will be held at Waterville Lutheran Cemetery in Waterville, IA. Friends may call from 9:00 am until time of services at the funeral home.

Howard Sylvester Sorenson was born August 18, 1929 in Waterville, IA, the son of Otto and Esther (Hendrickson) Sorenson. He attended Waterville Schools. On September 29, 1957 he married Doris McLoud in Hammondsport, NY. She died in 1964. He then married Sandra Munz and she died in 1994. Howard was a farmer and loved taking care of the farm animals and entertaining people with original classic country music. He played rhythm guitar and enjoyed singing country music. Howard started playing with Marvin Hillsheim, Charlie Goods and Russ Guyer, they traveled all over Northeast Iowa playing in nursing homes. Howard was one of the original Toe Tappers with Joe Sweeney and Lloyd Weber. He also played with Dale and Pat Sweet in the band Tumbleweed and later in the band Back to Country with Jim and Radine Adam, Dave Doughtery and Clete Rose. On May 10, 2003 he married Sheryl Wilkens at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. He was a member of Waterville Lutheran Church. Memories of Howard will live on forever.

Survivors include his wife of nine years Sheryl Wilkens Sorenson of Lansing, IA, 2 stepsons, William (Annie) Wilkens currently living in China and Delbert (Karen) Wilkens of Postville and their sons, Corey and Jacob, 2 nieces, Alida Calhoun and her 2 daughters, Shana and Sara and her 2 granddaughters, Ella and Ava, and Missy (Pat) Flatley all of Pekin, IL. He is preceded in death by his parents; and his first and second wives, Doris and Sandra.

Casketbearers are Darrell Steiber, Jim Adam, Pat Flatley, Tony Bulman, Delbert Wilkens and Kenneth Johnson.
