Howard V. Kolsrud, 73, died Saturday, December 23, 2006 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, IA. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 30th at 11:00 am at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Burial with graveside military rites will be in Old East Paint Creek Cemetery, rural Waterville. Friends may call from 9:30 am until the time of services on Saturday at Martin Funeral Home.
Howard Verdell Kolsrud was born on February 19, 1933 in rural Waterville, IA, the son of Melvin and Alma (Smedsrud) Kolsrud. He was baptized and confirmed at Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waterville and attended Waterville School. On June 6, 1954 he married Deloris Malli at First Lutheran Church in Decorah, IA. Howard served in the US Army from 1956 to 1958 where he was stationed in California and Germany. Howard farmed in the Waterville area for many years. He worked for the following businesses in Waukon, Farm Service, Quandahl Hardware and Peterson Hardware. Howard also had his own business where he did plumbing and heating and electrical work for many years. He was a skilled self taught craftsman. Howard was a life time member of Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his children, Roger (Donna) of Waukon, Dorothy (Bernell) Diersen of Lansing, IA, and Lyle of Decorah, IA; 8 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; 2 sons, Leland Ray and Wayne Steven; 1grandson, Thomas Larkin; a brother, Merlynn; and 2 sisters, Harriet Sanderson and Loraine Kolsrud.
Casketbearers were Arlyn Fossum, Bill Roe Sr., Donald Topel, Richard Hansmeier, Robert Kolsrud and Lloyd Johanningmeier.
